Transcript:
Hello classmates and Dr. Holder. My name is Roger Gray and it’s great to see some familiar names showing up on the discussion board. As some of you know, I usually go by Alan but, for class, will be using my first name, Roger, in order to match my screen name and make things easier. This is also in honor of my father, Roger, who is my biggest supporter as I pursue a master’s in educational technology and online instruction here at Liberty University.
I live in a small, rural town in Northern Colorado at the base of the Rocky Mountains and this is one of my last four courses, so I’m getting close. This is also my first video where I’m trying to do things unscripted so it’s a little bit challenging, but I’m getting more comfortable. I’m new with most of the technology and one of the things I hope to learn in this class is how to better implement technology in education, especially in a school that does not have a lot of technology, although we have a good base and a district that’s willing to support us.
I’m a fifth grade teacher with additional licensing in administration and responsibilities as an assistant principal. I swore after finishing my master’s in administration at the University of Colorado that I was done and God had other plans, He has such a sense of humor! So, I’m following his call and the scripture that is motivating me and supporting me most in that is Hebrews 11:8. From the new international version, it says, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going”. I think that is very fitting for me right now. Although, it is starting to take form and I see where the Lord could be leading me with this.
Some of my hobbies and interests are having large family meals, 15-35 people, as well as the Colorado classics of skiing, biking, hiking, and horseback riding. If my life were to be a movie, that’s a tough one because I don’t follow movies, or stars, very much. The first one that comes to mind to star would be Bruce Willis, I think, because he had to overcome a stuttering problem in order to become an actor and I have had to learn to overcome some specific learning disabilities in order to pursue higher education. So, I think that would be fitting.
I look forward to the next eight weeks together.
